Making an Affiliate Website

We are using a WordPress plugin that I have created called the Super Affiliate Plugin, to help in making an affiliate website that will be promoting the Clickbank product.

The Clickbank product that I have picked to promote and build the Clickbank affiliate website for, is a website that helps people find Legit Online Jobs. We’ve been building the Legit Online Jobs website at LegitOnlineJobsSite.com over the last 2 webinars and have already done the following:

1. Installed WordPress
2. Installed the Super Affiliate Plugin to help with building the website
3. Set the keywords & description (SEO settings)
4. Created a terms & conditions page
5. Created a privacy policy page
6. Imported 45 articles from ArticlesBase.com that are scheduled to be posted
7. Installed a new stylish theme from NewWPThemes.com and changed the header
8. Displayed affiliate banner ads for the product we’re promoting in the top header and sidebar
9. Cloaked and tracked our affiliate link (Clickbank hoplink) using the Super Affiliate Plugin

This week on the webinar we finish off building the website by adding a review and making it the ‘front page’ of the website. This means that the first page visitors see when they arrive at the website is a review of the product.

Create a Review

You can create a review of the Clickbank product by buying it and reading or using the product or service. To write a review you can follow some simple guidelines such as:

• Introduction
• About the Website/Product
• What Does the Website/Product Provide?
• Quality and Rating of the Website/Product
• Are There Testimonials & a Guarantee?
• Final Words on the Website/Product

To create the review simply add a ‘new page’ and make it the ‘front page’ of your WordPress website.

How to Change the Front Page

1. Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Reading’ in the administration area of your WordPress website
2. Click ‘A static page’ radio box
3. Select the page you want for the front page from the drop down box
4. Click ‘Save Changes’

Making Your Review Look Professional

You can make the review of your Clickank affiliate product look more professional by adding images and using some of the features included in the Super Affiliate Plugin (SAP).

• Add a Screen Shot of the website to your review so that your visitor/reader knows what the website looks like
• Add Review Stars using the Super Affiliate Plugin:
  1. Go to the Site Images > Rating Stars section of the Super Affiliate Plugin
  2. Copy the shortcode for the colour of stars that you want to use on your page
  3. Paste the shortcode where you want the rating stars to show
  4. Change the ‘number’ to the rating you would like to give the product. Eg: “9″ stars and then you could puct the wording: ‘Rating: 9/10′ below the stars
• Add some Sales Images using the Super Affiliate Plugin:
  1. Go to the Site Images > Sales Images section of the Super Affiliate Plugin
  2. Copy the shortcode for the image you would like to use
  3. Paste the shortcode where you want the image to appear in your page
• Make the ‘Click Here to Order’ sales image a clickable Cloaked Exit Link (with your Clickbank hoplink) using the Super Affiliate Plugin:
  1. Go to the Site Tools > Exit Links section of the Super Affiliate Plugin
  2. Add an ‘Alias’ (keyword) to the ‘Alias’ box provided under ‘Add a New Exit Link’
  3. Paste your affiliate hoplink from Clickbank into the ‘Destination URL’ box next to this
  4. Click the ‘Save Options’ button
  5. Your new Exit Link will be generated and saved under the ‘Exit Links’ section at the top of this page. Ie: If your alias/keyword was legitonlinejobs, the URL to link to would look like this: http://yourdomainname.com/go/legitonlinejobs
  6. To use the Exit Link simply copy the ‘Usage’ link
  7. In the WordPress admin go to your review page and click on the sales image ‘Edit Image’ icon at the top left of the image
  8. Paste the Exit Link into the ‘Link URL’ box
  9. Click ‘Update’
  10. Save the changes made to the review page
• Add clickable Banner Ads to the review page by using the Super Affiliate Plugin:
1. Go to the Site Tools > Banner Ads section of the Super Affiliate Plugin
2. Copy the HTML code of the banner you want to display from the affiliates section usually found on the website of your Clickbank product
3. Paste the HTML code into the empty ‘Banner Ad Code’ box
4. Click ‘Save Options’ for your banner shortcode to be saved
5. Copy the corresponding shortcode. Ie: [sap_banner]
6. Paste the shortcode into the exact spot you want the banner ad to show on your review page
7. Your banner ad will now be displayed on the page
• Add Geo IP Location to the review page making it look as if the author of the review is located in the same city as the viewer to the website by using the Super Affiliate Plugin:
When the viewer has an emotional hook, the message can be far more compelling. To establish this connection in Affiliate Marketing, the use of something familiar can increase conversion rates considerably.
By using the Geo IP shortcode outlined below, the Super Affiliate Plugin will detect the viewers details and display them instead of yours.
1. Use the following shortcode [sap_geoip]Brisbane, Australia[/sap_geoip] in your page or post where you would like it to appear.
   Eg: From the Desk of Bryan Wain – [sap_geoip]Brisbane, Australia[/sap_geoip]
2. You can supply the default City and Country names specific to you. These will appear if the viewers details (rarely) cannot be detected.
3. The Super Affiliate Plugin will automatically replace your default details with the viewers City and Country.
• Add a Display Date to the review page to make the page always look up-to-date using the Super Affiliate Plugin:
To display the current date on your website, simply use the following shortcode in your page, post or widget:
[sap_currentdate]

You can also change the current date to make it look a little more realistic.
Ie: If you want the content to look new, (but not written today) simply add the minus parameter and it will subtract the number of days from today:
[sap_currentdate minus=”15″]

Making an Affiliate Website

This week we will continue on with the build process of our Clickbank promo site; the Legit Online Jobs Site and I will show you how to do the following tasks using the Super Affiliate Plugin.

How to Use the Recommended Plugins in the Super Affiliate Plugin

This section of the Super Affiliate Plugin is a list of plugins that I recommend you install and use on your Clickbank Promo Site. It’s very easy to use and you can install all of the plugins from the WordPress plugin repository from within the Recommended Plugins section.

How to Automatically Import Articles Using the Super Affiliate Plugin

Ranking in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS) is critical to getting organic traffic through to your website. By constantly ensuring that your site has new content, Google (and the other Search Engines) will come back and index your site on a regular basis. Using articles that other people have written is a great way to provide Google with what it requires, for very little effort.

To import articles from ArticlesBase.com you can use the ‘Automatic Article Importer’ found in the Super Affiliate Plugin. To import articles using the ‘Automatic Article Importer’ follow these steps:

1. Insert a search keyword
2. Enter the number of days that you would like between each post on your website
3. Enter the date that you would like the articles to start publishing on your website

You can schedule as many articles as you like on your website. This allows you to queue as many posts as you like without having to maintain your website every day.

How to Automatically Import YouTube Videos Using the Super Affiliate Plugin

You can also use YouTube videos as content on your website. To import videos from YouTube.com you can use the ‘Automatic YouTube Importer’ found in the Super Affiliate Plugin. To import videos using the ‘Automatic YouTube Importer’ follow these steps:

1. Enter the Search Keyword (or keyword phrase)
2. Enter Number Of Videos To Import
3. Enter the Number Of Days that you would like between each videos post on your website
4. Enter the date that you would like the videos to start publishing on your website

By entering the above details and clicking the ‘Next’ button the Automatic YouTube Video Importer will retreive a list of related videos from YouTube where you will be allowed to choose how many you would like to import into your website.

You can select each video to import by clicking the tick box displayed next to each video. Once you click the ‘Next’ button located at the bottom of the displayed videos the Automatic YouTube Video Importer will then go and import the selected videos and create a number of Scheduled Posts. This allows you to queue as many video posts as you like without having to maintain your website every day.

Choose a WordPress Theme

You can choose a theme from the ‘Appearance > Themes’ area in your WordPress admin area or you can find some great WordPress themes at NewWPThemes.com. This website has 254 awesome themes that are perfect for affiliate marketing websites. All of the themes are built very well and include great settings and options, as well as the photoshop files (psd) for each theme if you would like to modify it. If you would like to edit psd files you can use gimp, which is a free program.

Use Banner Ads to Link to the Clickbank Product

If you have used a theme from NewWPThemes.com you can insert your own banner Ads in the top header and sidebar. Most of the time you will find that your chosen Clickbank product will have an affiliate area where they provide you with banner ads that you can use along with your affiliate link.

Cloak Your Affiliate Links Using the Super Affiliate Plugin

It is a good idea to cloak or mask your outgoing affiliate links. Using the ‘Exit Links’ section of the Super Affiliate Plugin you can protect your affiliate links as well as track how many people are clicking on them. This is an easy to use tool where you simply enter an alias or keyword to create a link to as well as your affiliate link (Clickbank hoplink) and the Super Affiliate plugin will create a cloaked link that redirects anyone who clicks on it to the affiliate product. It also tracks the click for you so that you know what ads are being clicked on.

What is a Clickbank Promo Site?

A Clickbank promo site is a website that promotes one particular Clickbank product by marketing directly on the Clickbank product name. This will allow us to try and get visitors to our website based on searches performed in Google for the product name. We will be tying to get visitors clicking through to our website who have already heard about the product and are looking around for more information. As they are searching for the product name we already know they are interested in it, so we have a higher chance of them buying.

You can use the following criteria to choose a Clickbank product to promote:

Clickbank Product Selection Criteria:

• High Gravity Product
• High Competition Niche
• Use the Clickbank Marketplace and order by Popularity or Gravity

Once you have found a few products that fit the above criteria from Clickbank, you will then need to use Market Samurai to do some research. We need to see how many people are searching for our keyword (which will be the product name), as well as do some research on the competition that there is online already (other websites promoting the same product using the product name as the keyword).

What is Market Samurai?

Market Samurai is a very comprehensive keyword research tool and will help you find high-profit, low-competition keywords and niche markets with ease. I highly recommend it for your keyword research! You can get a free trial of the software which includes:

• 4 Brief “How-To” Videos, Sharing How You Can Get More Visitors, with Less Effort

I have found a product in Clickbank to promote called Legit Online Jobs. It has a high gravity in Clickbank of 160 and it’s in a high competition, highly searched for niche (make money online) . In Market Samurai I found that a lot of searches were performed for ‘legit online jobs’ for the broad match keyword and the SEO competition was also within reach.

Market Samurai SEO Competition Criteria:

• Lots of Green
• Low Page Rank websites
• Backlinks less than 200
• On-page SEO not done properly

Finding Your Domain Name

When you have found a product that matches the Clickbank and Market Samurai criteria you can use Bustaname to select a domain name with the keyword inside of the URL. The domain name that I have registered is LegitOnlineJobsSite.com. Is is ok to put another word on the end as long as you have the keyword in your domain name in the correct order.

Install the Super Affiliate Plugin & Start Making an Affiliate Website

Once you have registered your domain name you’re ready to start making an affiliate website using the Super Affiliate Plugin. You will need to upload the SAP using the ‘upload’ section in the admin area of your WordPress website after downloading the plugin from the Super Affiliate Plugin website.

YouTube Marketing

The Different Types of YouTube Ads

Promoted Videos – Promote your own video for particular keywords searched for (similar to Google AdWords)
InStream Video Ad – Promote your own video by placing it inside of another video that someone is watching
Text Ads – Display a text ad on a video that someone is watching using the Google Content Network
Click To Play Video – Embed your video on someone else’s website (similar to AdSense banner ads except with a video)
InStream Audio Ad – Audio (such as voice) can be placed inside of another video that someone is watching (an icon will be shown to click on and play the audio)
InVideo Static Image – Place a banner/image ad on the video being watched

All of the advertising options above are controlled through the Google AdWords – Display Ad Builder.

Selecting Your Advertising Keywords

A good way of seeing what keywords people are searching for in YouTube is by using the YouTube Keyword Tool.

Creating a Promoted Video on YouTube

This week we look at creating a promoted video, where you can pay to have your video shown in the promoted videos for a search result.

You can create a video to promote on YouTube either by using a video camera and recording yourself or by using Camtasia and doing a screen capture of your computer screen.

After you create your video you will need to upload it to YouTube via your YouTube account. Once it’s uploaded it make sure you place a clickable link to your website in the description box. To make your link clickable include the ‘http://’ before your website URL. Something else you can also do in your YouTube account is add an annotation on your video. This can display the URL of the website in the video that you would like the viewer to visit after they have finished watching (like a ‘call-to-action’). It’s not clickable but it’s a visual aid that can be used to make them click on the link below the video in the description box.

How to Create a Promoted Video on YouTube

To create a YouTube Promoted Videos campaign login to your Google AdWords account follow the steps below.

Create Campaign

1. Click new campaign.
2. Campaign Type > Display Network Only (Display Ad Builder).
3. Name your campaign.
4. Choose the country that you want to display the promoted video to.
5. The networks and devices will be pre populated because we chose the campaign type earlier. However you can click to choose the relevant pages only on the placements and audiences you want to manage.
6. Choose the Devices you wish to target (desktop computers, mobile phones etc.)
7. Choose your bidding options (manual) and enter the daily budget.
8. Save and continue.

Create AdGroup

1. Name your AdGroup.
2. Enter the Keywords related to your video. These keywords with determine which managed placements are good matches for your ad.
3. Select/Enter your managed placements (youtube.com). You can use the YouTube Video Targeting Tool to help you with this.
4. Enter the maximum bidding options (Cost Per Click CPC).
5. Click ‘Save AdGroup’.

Create Ad

1. The Display Ad Builder will automatically pop up after saving your AdGroup.
2. Click on the ‘Video and Audio’ Category.
3. Click on ‘YouTube Promoted Videos Template’.
4. Create an Ad Name.
5. Write a headline and description for your video.
6. Click on ‘Select a YouTube Video’ .
7. Search for the YouTube channel that the video has been uploaded to and select it by clicking on the radio button beside it.
8. Click on ‘Select’ towards the bottom of the box.
9. Select the destination page from the drop down box.
10. Click ‘Save Ad’.
11. Let Your Ad go through the review process with Google.

There are over 2 billion videos viewed per day on YouTube.
The number of searches performed in YouTube has passed the number of searches performed in Google.
Over 24 hours of content uploaded every minute.

You can use the YouTube Keyword Tool used to find out what people are searching for inside of YouTube.

On this webinar I show you the many different types of paid traffic methods that you can use on YouTube.

The Different Types of YouTube Ads

The first paid traffic method I show you using YouTube is the InVideo Static Image which is essentially a display banner ad that shows over someone else’s video. The banner ad can be clicked on and you can direct the user to a URL (such as a website, clickbank hop link, CPA affiliate link etc.) or open another ‘InVideo’ video (a video that displays over the video they are already watching).

Note that the image size required for the banner ad isn’t a standard banner size (480px X 70px) so you may need to resize the banner, if you are using one that is provided for you.

You can download and use the Paint.net software to resize images/banners.

How to Create an InVideo Static Image Ad on YouTube

To create a YouTube Display Ad campaign login to your Google AdWords account follow the steps below.

Create Campaign

1. Click new campaign
2. Campaign Type > Display Network Only (Display Ad Builder)
3. Name your campaign
4. Choose the country that you want to display the ad in
5. The networks and devices will be pre populated because we chose the campaign type earlier. However you can click to choose the relevant pages only on the placements and audiences you want to manage.
6. Choose the Devices you wish to target. (desktop computers, mobile phones etc.)
7. Choose your bidding options (manual) and enter the daily budget
8. Save and continue

Create AdGroup

1. Select/Enter your managed placements (youtube.com). You can use the YouTube Video Targeting Tool to help you with this.
2. Enter the maximum bidding options (Cost Per Click CPC)
3. Save AdGroup

Create Ad

1. The Display Ad Builder will automatically pop up after saving your AdGroup
2. Click on the ‘Video and Audio’ Category
3. Click on ‘InVideo Static Image’
4. Create an Ad Name
5. Select the file on your computer for the ‘InVideo Overlay’
6. Enter in the Display URL
7. Enter the destination URL or affiliate link
8. Save Ad
9. Let Your Ad go through the review process with Google.

What Is On Page Optimization?

On-page optimization is an SEO technique that can help you increase your ranking in the natural search results. On page SEO refers to several factors that you can perform and set in the coding (HTML) on your website.

On Page SEO Elements

There are certain things you should do when trying to optimize your website and all of them are important. I have made a mind map of each of the elements you should do. You are welcome to download the On-Page SEO Mind Map and keep it handy on your computer or even print it out so that you can remember them easily.

I explain them all in detail and do demonstrations in the webinar recording but you can also find a brief overview of each of them below.

w3c Compliance

w3c stands for World Wide Web Consortium is an international community where lots of different organizations and people work together to develop Web standards. They work at developing protocols and guidelines that ensures the the World Wide Web works well.

Basically you should aim to make your website w3c compliant, without any HTML errors to give your visitors a good user experience. This should be fairly easy when using WordPress to build your website.

You can check your website for any errors using W3C’s Validator tool.

Head Tags

Title Tag <title>

The title tag is the title that Google uses in the Search Engine Results (SERPS). When you set the title tag for your page you should use no more than 68 characters and also use your primary keyword.

Description Meta Tag

The description tag is the snippet that will display for your website when someone searches Google, Yahoo or Bing and your website shows up in the SERPS. This should be a short descriptive sentence/s explaining exactly what the page is about including your primary keyword. Do not keyword stuff the description, this needs to be a coherent, readable sentence! Your description tag should be no more than 160 characters.

Keywords Meta Tag

The keywords tag should include the keywords you are trying to rank your website or page for. These need to be relevant to the content on the page!

HTML Structure

If you are using WordPress to build your website the structure of your HTML should be pretty good and you’ll have nothing to worry about. Things to watch out for are:

• Use DIV tags instead of tables. DIV tags should be used for the layout of your site and table tags should be used for tabular data.
• Use strong tags to make text bold.
• Don’t hide content using CSS.

Heading Tags

You should be using H1, H2, H3, through to H6 tags on each of your pages. Make sure they all have at least a H1, H2 & H3 tag on the page. Do not use any more than 1 H1 tag per page. You should also include your primary keyword in your Heading tags.

URL Structure

When you purchase your domain name you should try to get your primary keyword in the domain if possible as this can greatly help with SEO. You also need to use URLs that are descriptive, including your keywords in them and making sure that they explain exactly what is on that page.

To set the correct permalink structure so that your URLs display properly with you keywords, when using WordPress you need to use the following custom structure: /%postname%

Inbound Links

Ensure that your site links to itself internally using descriptive keywords.

Alt Tags

Images

Search engines cannot recognize the visual content of your images, but they can read information found in the ‘Alt tag’ of the images. If you have images on your page you should give them an “alternative text” such as your keyword phrase or a descriptive word/s to explain what the image is.

Links (anchor tags)

Use the ‘title’ attribute to describe the page that you are linking to.

Content

Duplicate Content

Make sure you use canonical URLs, which WordPress usually does automatically anyway and try not to use the same content multiple times on your site.

Keyword Density

The primary keyword that you are targeting on a page should not be used excessively as Google does not like keyword stuffing and you will be penalized. You should aim for a keyword density of 3%.

XML Sitemaps

Generate a Sitemap

Include a Sitmap on your website. A Sitemap is basically a map of all of the pages you have created on your website. This will tell Google about the structure of you website and all the URL’s that might not be easily visible. They also let Google know how often your pages are updated and modified.

You can use the Super Affiliate Plugin to help you create a Sitemap for your website. It’s in the recommended plugins section!

Robots.txt

The robots.txt file is used by search engines to establish what they are allowed/disallowed to index on a website.

Visual Sitemap

Create visual Sitemap on your website so that users that visit can easily navigate around your site.
If you follow these on-page search engine optimization techniques for each of your websites it will definitely help to rank your website better in the SERPS.

What is CPA Marketing?

CPA stands for Cost Per Action or Cost Per Acquisition. It is also sometimes referred to, as CPL (Cost Per Lead) marketing. In this type of marketing the affiliate gets paid for each action performed or each lead generated.

Examples of Different Types of CPA Offers

1. A free download (like a toolbar)
2. An email address submit
3. A short form fill
4. A long form fill (such as a survey)
5. A free trial
6. A subscription (a things such as a magazine, membership site or products like Pro Active skin care treatment where it’s sent every month or two)
7. A purchase (from an online store)

CPA Payout Amounts

The more action a user or customer has to take, the higher the payout! CPA offers can pay anywhere from $0.50 to $50! (or even higher in some cases).

A Rule to Remember With CPA Marketing

CPA = Resistance

ie: The more resistance, the lower your conversion rate will be.
So what is resistance?

• Credit card details
• Recurring payments
• Postage & handling
• Phone number

What Makes A Good CPA Marketing Network?

• High payouts
• Affiliate managers
• Emailing offers and specials to you every week
• Fraud/Click detection
• Clear terms and conditions on each of the offers
• Flexible tracking options
• Easy to use interface

All CPA marketing networks require you to be approved before you can start running offers. They will call you for a phone interview and you will need to be able to show examples of your previous internet marketing skills such as:

• Example websites
• Estimated revenue
• Estimates or proof of traffic
• Budgets for paid advertising
• Previous ROI on advertising

How to Find CPA Offers

An excellent way of finding and comparing different CPA offers is to use Offervault.com. Offervault is owned by Mark Roth and is an aggregator of all affiliate/CPA offers from most networks around the world. It’s a great place to find offers in your niche as well as who is paying the best for similar offers.

Performing Keyword Research Using Market Samurai

I did my keyword research for the Smiley Central CPA offer that I found on NeverBlue using Market Samurai. During the webinar I show you how to use Market Samurai to do your keyword research.

These are the filters that I set when evaluating my niche/keyword:

The SEO Traffic (SEOT) filter is set to 80
The Phrase to Broad Match (PBR) filter is set to 15%
The SEO Competition (SEOC) filter is set to 30,000

SEOT = The maximum potential amount of clicks for the number 1 position keyword.
PBR = The percentage of phrase-match searches out of broad-match searches for the keyword.
SEOC = The total number of webpages globally that mention the keyword term in the same order.

We found that after 8 clicks on our ad we had made a sale earning us $26.35US. It cost just $3.66AU to make this sale. We then had a look at our Prosper202 tracking statistics to see exactly which keywords people were searching for to trigger our ad.

Using this information, we created a new adgroup that was targeted to the keyword using “phrase” and [exact] keyword matching, and created targeted ad text with the keyword used throughout the ad.

This brings us to the end of the Rocket-Piano-Review webinar series. I’ve decided to have a couple of weeks off from the webinars so that I can focus on finishing some outstanding projects and also create more training opportunities for you.
